Paradise Valley Men's XC Win DII National Championship

Tallahassee, FL - The Paradise Valley men's cross country team won the national title at the NJCAA Div. II Cross Country Championships.

The Div. I and Div. II championship meets took place on Saturday at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Florida.

The ACCAC was represented by five men's teams and five women's teams. Along with two runners (1 man and 1 woman) from Phoenix College who qualified individually.

Overall, the ACCAC one one team national champion and two individual national champions. Along with eight runners earning All-American honors and nine runners earning honorable mention All-American honors.

 

DII Women's Recap:

The lady Thunderbirds from Mesa were the national runner-ups as they were one point off from tying Lansing (MI) for a chance at the team title, 57-58. Coconino was fourth with 124 points and Paradise Valley was 16th with 437 points. Both Mesa and Coconino had program records for the highest finish at a national championship meet.

Hayley Burns from Coconino won the individual title while Anna Harmon from Mesa was the runner-up as they both earned AA honors. Kate Brockman from Mesa also earned AA honors (eighth place). Story Alexander (Mesa, 16th), MaKena Thornton (Mesa, 17th), Ryan Heiliger (Mesa, 19th), and Jazmin Estrada (PVCC, 22nd) each earned honorable mention AA honors. Kamora Carr from Phoenix was 87th overall.

DI Women's Recap:

The Vaqueras from Central Arizona were seventh overall with 218 points and Pima was 24th with 567 points. Beatrice Keditukei from CAC earned honorable mention AA honors with a 16th-place finish. Marissa Lopez was the Aztec's top runner as she finished 79th overall.

DII Men's Recap:

As mentioned before, the Paradise Valley Pumas won the national title, scoring 66 points to beat the runner-ups from Heartland (IL), who scored 88 points. Mesa was fourth with 116 points and Coconino was 23rd with 584 points.

Yotuel Garcia from Mesa won the individual title and earned AA honors. Gilbert Olivas (fourth), Jonathan Barney (ninth), Pierce Vittone (10th), and Nathan Pestka (11th) from PVCC each earned AA honors as well. Javier Garcia (18th) and Hayden Gelder (28th) from Mesa each earned honorable mention AA honors. Luis Duque from Phoenix was 86th overall.

DI Men's Recap:

The Central Arizona Vaqueros were seventh overall with 194 points and Pima was 13th with 385 points. Elliot Smith (22nd) and Julian Campos (28th) from CAC each earned honorable mention AA honors. Johnathon Lane was the Aztec's top runner as he finished 35th overall.
