Five ACCAC cross country teams competed at the Mesa College Jamboree on Saturday while Pima competed in the U of A Dave Murray Invitational.
For Pima, they were the only non-NCAA Div. I school at the meet. Marissa Lopez was the Aztec's top female finisher as she was 43rd with a time of 24:33.3 on the 6000-meter course.
The Aztec men's team finished in sixth place and was led by Joel Gardner, who ran a personal-best time of 25:08.2 on the 8000-meter course and finished in 18th place.
At the Mesa Jamboree, the host Thunderbirds men's and women's teams won the team titles.
In the men's team results, the T-Birds scored 34 points. Paradise Valley was third with 54 points, Central Arizona was fourth with 68 points, Coconino was fifth with 163 points, and Phoenix was sixth with 164 points.
Yotuel Garcia of Mesa won the men's race with a personal-best time of 25:09 on the 8000-meter course. Gilbert Olivas of PV was the runner-up, also running a PB (25:30.9). Central Arizona's top finisher was Elliot Smith (third, 25:49.9 PB). Kevin Pawesiema Jr. was the top finisher for Coconino (31st, 28:28.1 PB). Phoenix's top finisher was Luis Duque (34th, 28:31.9 PB). For Glendale, Alex Babian was the Gaucho's top finisher (59th, 33:46 PB). Ryland Shoulders was 60th (34:06.7) for Estrella Mountain.
In the women's team results, Mesa scored 28 points. Coconino was third with 76 points and Paradise Valley was fourth with 98 points.
Hayley Burns of Coconino won the women's race with a personal-best time of 17:53.4 on the 5000-meter course. Kate Brockman of Mesa was the runner-up with a PB of 18:14.9. Jazmin Estrada was PV's top finisher (12th, 19:59.8 PB). Melissa Ruse of CAC was 23rd (21:22.6). Kamora Carr of Phoenix was 24th (21:34.3). Abigail Peck of Glendale was 32nd (22:55.9 PB). Annika Axman of Estrella Mountain was 51st (30:06.7 PB).
Central Arizona and Mesa will travel to San Diego, CA to compete in the Manny Bautista Invite this Friday.
