Four schools share Region I cross country honors

  Four different schools shared championship honors as the Region I cross country title meets were conducted in separate DI and DII races Friday in Glendale, AZ.

  In the men's Division I race, Pima edged Central Arizona, 28-29. The women's DI race went to CAC which claimed the top five spots. In DII, the Paradise Valley men slipped past Mesa, 27-28 ad in DII MCC easily defeated Phoenix. MCC's Caden Resendez, the ACCAC champion, was sidelined with an injury.

  Central's Raphael Kitur led his team to victory in the men's DI race, finishing the 8K course in 25:44.9. Pima was led by Emmanuel Corral who finished in third place with a time of 26:57.5.

  CAC's Beatrice Keditukei led the women's DI parade with a 19:40.1 clocking for 5K. The Aztecs were paced by Marissa Lopez in sixth place in 22:44.2.

  In DII, MCC's Yotuel Garcia captured the individual title, running the course in 26:14.2. PVCC was paced by William Wayne in third place 27:00.4. Those were the top team finishers. Other schools entered individuals. Phoenix had Miguel Molina in 11th place in 29:23.7. Glendale was led by Hayder Al-Anizi who was 12th in Estrella Mountain had Alex Bobian in 18th place (31:08.1) and Coconino had Mauricio Gonzalez 21st in 32:02.1.

  On the women's side in DII, the T-Birds' Kate Brockman won with a time of 19:20.0. Paradise Valley was paced by Ryan Heiliger, second in 19:54.2. Cocnino had Shaelyn Honahni in fifth place (20:58.7). Phoenix' Nadia Torres placed 10th (22:13.0). Glendale's Catalina Soto was 15th in 23:58.3.Estrella Mountain's Kaia Wood was 18th (25:17.7). Tohono Oodham's Diavia Zazueta was 21st (27:29.9).

  The season concludes with the NJCAA National Championships for both divisions on November 13 in Richmond, Va.
