ACCAC cross country teams prepare for regionals at Arizona Christian Invitational

  A number of ACCAC runners competed at the Arizona Christian University Invitational, although quite a few sat out the meet in preparation for the Region I championships which will be held next Friday.

In the men's 8K race, Pima was the top conference finisher, taking second place with 49 points. The Aztecs were led the Brendan Torres who was third overall in the 43-runner field with a time of 27:20.7.

  Mesa, which left most of its top runners home, was third with 81 points and was paced by Masen Hofmann who finished seventh clocked in 27:58.0.

  Phoenix also entered a full team and took fifth place with 126 points. The Bears' top finisher was Miguel Molina who placed 14th in 29:02.2.

  Estrella Mountain also entered two individuals with Matthew Gomez leading the way in 17th place with a time of 29:11.2.

  On the women's side, only Phoenix entered a full team with PC finishing third with 69 points. The Bears were led by Crystal Morales who ran 14th in the 35-runner race with a 21:55.9 clocking.

  Several other teams entered individuals, but not full teams.

  Mesa's Tanaeya Johnson took second place in 19:50.8 over the 5K course. Shaelyn Hohnani, representing Coconino, was sixth timed in 20:21.0. Pima was paced by Emalyn Bowen in 19th place in 22:28.6. Estrella Mountain was led by Kaia Wood who finished 31st with a time of 25:25.6.

  The Region I championships will be held at Glendale's Heroes Regional Park Friday beginning at 9:15 a.m.
