Central Arizona sweeps men's and women's divisions of own cross country invitational

  Central Arizona took both the men's and women's divisions of its own Vaquero "Campy" Invitational Saturday.

  CAC won the men's race over Mesa, 12-87 by taking four of the top five positions, although MCC's individual ACCAC champion, Caden Resendez, did not compete.

  The Vaquera women captured all of the top seven spots and defeated Ottawa (AZ), 15-55. No other complete teams were entered.

  Two Central men's alumni took the first two spots but among the current runners Christian Franklin third in 25:22.2 and Raphael Kitur fourth timed in 25:24.9. MCC was led by Brandon Wilson, who placed 14th in 27:22.3 while Pima's No. 1 finisher was Emmanuel Corral, one spot back in 15th place with a 27:38.6 clocking.

  The Thunderbirds' Makayla Englehardt won the women's race in 19:03.7. Central Arizona's Lisbet Porras was second in 19:18.3. Coconino CC competed as a member of the ACCAC for the first time ever with Shaelyn Hohnani taking tenth place in 20:14.8. Glendale was led by Catalina Soto who placed 27th in 23:01.1. Pima's top finisher was Emalyn Brown who was 29th clocked in 23:14.3. Estrella Mountain was paced by Kaia Wood who was 36th in 24:35.1 Tohono O'odham's best finisher was Divinia Zazaueta who finished 39th in 27:01.2. None of the ACCAC schools entered a full team except CAC.

  Some ACCAC teams will compete at the Drews/Neubauer Invitation next Friday at Paradise Valley while others will travel to Riverside, Calif., Saturday for the UC-Riverside Highlander Invitational.
