Mesa won the men's championship and Central Arizona captured the women's title as the ACCAC staged its cross country championships Friday.
The MCC men edged CAC, 33-35, to claim their title, while CAC was a 29-55 winner over the T-Birds on the women's side. The event was held at Freestone Park in Gilbert, AZ. Paradise Valley placed third in each event.
The T-Birds's Caden Resendez, son of former head coach Clyde Resendez, took the men's crown by over 17 seconds with an 8K time of 25:56.3. Central took the next two slots with Christian Franklin second in 26:13.6 and Raphael Kitur third, clocked in 26:28.0. Gilbert Olivas, of Paradise Valley, was fourth with a time of 26:34.5.
Mesa also captured the women's individual crown with Kate Brockman winning with a 5K time of 19:23.3. The Vaqueras' Ariz Durarte was second in 19:28.9. Makayla Englehardt, of Mesa, was third with a 19:47.9 clocking, followed by Beatrice Keditukei, of CAC, in fourth place with a time of 20:04.3. Paradise Valley's Meghan Barney was fifth in 20:13.5.
Some ACCAC schools will participate in the Ottawa (AZ) Invitational Saturday in Surprise, AZ. Most will get together Oct. 9 at Central Arizona for the Vaquero "CAMPY" Invitational.
