D1 Player of the Week: Maria Fernanda Ararat-Sandoval - Outside Hitter - Arizona Western

The Matadors are out to a 9-0 start and Ararat-Sandoval has been outstanding. She averaged 11.66 kills, 9.33 digs and 1.11 blocks per game.

AWC head coach Lorayne Chandler on Ararat-Sandoval, "Mafe (Maria), has been an asset to our team thus far. As a freshman, her all-around playing ability has made her an immediate utility player."

D2 Player of the Week: Tara Melton - Middle Blocker - Glendale

GCC went 3-0 last week with wins over Phoenix, Scottsdale and Pima led by Melton. The sophomore averaged 2.9 kills, 1.1 blocks and .6 digs.

GCC head coach Lisa Stuck on Melton, "Tara has had a very impactful, consistent start to the season. She hit a near perfect game against SCC hitting .727 with no errors. She has put up impressive numbers on both sides of the ball (hitting efficiency and blocking) and has managed 4 aces in 3 matches."
