2008 ACCAC Volleyball News


NJCAA Honors Three ACCAC Volleyball Players as All-Americans — Haylee Thompson (Scottsdale, OH) and Brittany Clark (Glendale, S) were each named to the NJCAA Division II All-American First Team, while Robin Law (Phoenix, OH) was an Honorable Mention selection.

Scottsdale Volleyball Places 7th at NJCAA D2 Championships — Scottsdale defeated Des Moines 3-2 (25-14, 13-25, 25-18, 17-25, 17-15) to earn a seventh place finish at the 2008 NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championships. The Artichokes' Haylee Thompson was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

 

#3 Cowley CC Defeats Scottsdale 3-2 — Scottsdale dropped a hard fought 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-10) match to #3 seed Cowley (KS) at the 2008 NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championships. The Artichokes will face Des Moins Area CC (IA) in the 9th/10th Place Match.

'Chokes Fall to #2 Johnson County — Johnson County scored a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-23) win over #6 Scottsdale at the 2008 NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championships. The loss drops SCC from National Championship contention.

Scottsdale Wins in NJCAA D2 Opener — #6 Scottsdale defeated #11 McHenry 3-2 (20-25, 25-13, 25-19, 22-25, 17-15) in the opening round of the 2008 NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championships in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

SCC's Mannix Heading to NJCAA Hall of Fame — Scottsdale Head Coach Regina Mannix has been selected to the NJCAA College Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Mannix, currently in her 15th season, has the highest winning percentage (.700) and victories (424) among any volleyball coach at any collegiate level in Arizona. She is a three-time ACCAC Coach of the Year (2001, 2003, 2006), a two-time AVCA Southwest Coach of the Year (2003, 2005), and the NJCAA District G Coach of the Year three times (2003, 2004, 2005).

Scottsdale Cruises Past Glendale for Championship — #2 seed Scottsdale scored a 3-0 win over #1 seed Glendale to capture the 2008 NJCAA Region 1 Division II Championship. | more |

Phoenix, Scottsdale Advance to Title Game — First, #2 seed Scottsdale defeated top-seed Eastern Arizona. Then #3 Phoenix eliminated the top team to advance to the championship game of the 2008 NJCAA Region 1 Division II Playoffs. | more |

Eastern Arizona Wins NJCAA Region I DI Championship — Top-seeded Eastern Arizona scored a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over #2 Arizona Western to capture the 2008 NJCAA Region 1 Division I Championship. Eastern, which improved to 22-10 on the season, will host the District A Finals against the Region XVIII Champion on November 11th.

Top Seeds Win in Round I of DII Tourney — #1 Glendale and #2 Scottsdale won opening round matches in the NJCCAA Region I Division II Championships. The two will meet in the double-elimination format tournament for a right to advance straight to the title match while Phoenix and Pima will meet in an elimination match. | more |

Region I Playoffs Set to Begin — Top-seeds Eastern Arizona and Glendale will host the NJCCAA Region I Division I and II Volleyball Championships, respectively. Eastern host Arizona Western at 5 p.m. on October 31st, while the DII playoffs begin October 30th. | more |

SCC's Thompson, Glendale's Stuck Earn Top Honors — Scottsdale's Haylee Thompson and Coach Lisa Stuck of Glendale have been honored ans the ACCAC Player and Coach of the Year. | more |

Orr & Thompson Pair to Win ACCAC Awards...Again — Easter Arizona's Shaka Orr has now won the ACCAC Division I Volleyball Player of the Week award two times while Scottsdale's Haylee Thompson has won the ACCAC's Division II Volleyball Player of the Week honor four times this season. | more |

Anderson, Clark Lead Teams to Wins — Yavapai's Jordan Anderson and Glendale's Brittany Clark each led their respective teams to a pair of Conference victories to earn the ACCAC's Division I and Division II Volleyball Player of the Week awards. | more |

Thompson Honored Again — Scottsdale's Haylee Thompson is a 3-time ACCAC Player of the Week in 2008 and now has a NJCAA Division II Player of the Week award to boast. The 6-0 sophomore posted a pair of double-double games with 21 kills and 19 digs against #5 ranked Glendale and 32 kills and 22 digs against South Mountain. She averaged 6.63 kills and 5.13 digs per game while hitting .425.

ACCAC Honors Eastern's Orr, Scottsdale's Thompson — For the third time this season, Scottsdale's Haylee Thompson has been selected the ACCAC's Division II Volleyball Player of the Week. Eastern Arizona's Shaka Orr led the Gila Monsters to a pair of wins to take the Division I POW award. | more |

Pahukoa-Malia, Law Garner Awards — Jazmin Pahukoa-Malia of Eastern Arizona and Robin Law of Phoenix have been selected the ACCAC Division I and Division II Players of the Week, respectively. | more |

Toazzi, Thompson Earn ACCAC Honors — Arizona Western's Marluci Toazzi won her second ACCAC D1 Player off the Week award of the season while Scottsdale's Haylee Thompson earned the Division 2 honor for the second consecutive week. | more |

SCC's Thompson Earns ACCAC Honor — Haylee Thompson led Scottsdale to a 6-1 record on the week to earn her the ACCAC's Division II Player of the Week award. | more |

Amber Yazzie Yazzie Selected National D2 Player of the Week — For the week ending September 6, 2008, Glendale's Amber Yazzie has been selected the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week. Yazzie posted 3.7 kills, 1.2 digs and 0.5 aces per game in a pair of Gaucho victories on the week.

EAC's Yasak, GCC's Yazzie Garner Region Awards — Kalie Yasak led Eastern Arizona past Scottsdale to earn NJCAA Region I Division I Player of the Week, while Amber Yazzie helped keep Glendale undefeated and was rewarded as the Region I Division II Player of the Week. | more |
