Mesa now fourth, Vakasioula second, at NJCAA women's golf championships

  The Mesa team improved to fourth place, and MCC's Alyzzah Vakasioula is now in second place individually at the NJCAA Division I Women's golf national championships.

  The T-Birds improved their team score from 326 to 322 for a 36-hole total of 648, one shot in front of Iowa Western.

  Meanwhile, Vakasioula also improved one shot to a 74 for a 149 total over the rugged Mayfair C.C. layout, but now trails leader Nagano Minori, of Seminole State, by six. Vakasioula is the only non-Seminole State player in the top five.

  Among other ACCAC players, Pima's Maria Harrouch carded an 82 and slipped to a tie for 13th place with a 36-hole total of 158.

  South Mountain's Kylie Rehberger improved to an 84 and is in 51st place with a 172 total.

  The event continues through Thursday.
