15 Region I athletes score on second day of NJCAA track & field championships

  With the busiest day for finals coming up Thursday, Region I athletes have scored in 15 events so far at the NJCAA Division I Track and Field Championships, with the top finishers being two Mesa women who took first and second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

  Mary Siml and Ellis Collins were the top two finishers, helping Mesa into fourth place after the first two days of competition with 34 points. Central Arizona is eighth with 14 points and Pima is 18th with four points.

  On the men's side, the top Region I finisher was MCC's Lofton Thomas who was tied for third in the pole vault at 15-5.

  Through the first nine events, Mesa is 18th with 5.83 points, Pima is tied for 19th with five points, Paradise Valley is tied for 23rd with three points and Central Arizona is tied for 27th with one point.

  The event, which is being held in Levelland, Texas, concludes Thursday.

  Below is a list of all Region I scorers. All earn All-American honors.
