Conference athletes capture seven more NJCAA quaifications

  Tucson, AZ – ACCAC athletes produced seven more NJCAA Division I national championship qualifiers on a cool, sometimes slightly rainy day at the Chapman Pima Aztec Invitational Saturday.

  This time female athletes to center stage with five of the seven marks, including three in one event.

  In the women's 1500-meters, Central Arizona's Precious Robinson and Ariz Duarte took first and second places in 4:50.86 and 4:51.38 respectively. Mesa's Ellis Collins also beat the NJCAA standard with a time of 4:58.58.

  CAC grabbed a third qualifier as Princess Kara hurled the discus 161-1.

  Mesa had a total of three better NJCAA marks. Along with Collins, Janie Tenney topped the mark in the pole vault at 10-11 ¾.

  On the men's side, the T-Birds' Lofton Thomas qualified in the pole vault with a leap of 14-7 ¼, while Pima's Reise Way did so in the javelin with a toss of 178-6.

  Next up for ACCAC track and field athletes is the Glendale Outdoor Meet on Saturday, March 20.
