Four post qualifying marks at Mesa Indoor meet

Three ACCAC track and field athletes surpassed qualifying standards for the NJCAA Indoor National Championships at the Mesa Indoor Saturday, although only two will have a chance to actually compete, and then only at the NJCAA outdoor title meet.

The Maricopa County Community College District is prohibiting member schools from attending indoor nationals this year. Two of the marks beaten Saturday are good enough to qualify outdoors.

Paradise Valley's Corde Long met the standard indoors in both the 200 and 400 meters. He ran a 21.75 in the 200 and 48.70 in the 400.

Teammate Joel Goulborne actually won the 400 meters in 48.24, a time good enough to qualify him for outdoor nationals.

In addition, Mesa's Lofton Thomas, competing unattached, qualified outdoors in the pole vault at 14-7 ¼.

The date for the next meet has been changed. The Mesa Invitational will be contested March 6, rather than this coming Saturday.
