AZW, Pima, in pool play at NJCAA men's soccer nationals

Defending national champion Pima, and Arizona Western, are continuing Pool Play at the NJCAA Division I National Soccer Championship.

The ninth-seeded Aztecs dropped their opening contest to #4 East Florida State Monday in a heartbreaking 1-0 decision in overtime. EFS's Levonte Johnson scored in the 104th minute for the win in the tournament being held in Tyler, Texas.

But the Aztecs rallied quickly, pumping in four first-half goals in a 4-2 win over #5 Essex College Tuesday. Seung  Eon Kim tallied twice and Itsuki Ishihara and Estevan Manzo also found the net.

PCC must now await the outcome of a game Wednesday between Essex and East Florida to see which will advance from Pool D to the national semi-final round.

AZW, the # 7 seed, fell to #11 Illinois Central 1-0 Tuesday on an early goal in the 18th minute by Juan Rosique. The Matadors face Louisburg (NC) at 11:30 MST to complete Pool B play.
