OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK –Scottsdale’s Za’Quan Summers had his best game of the season when Scottsdale needed it most as the Artichokes captured the WSFL crown by downing the Mesa Thunderbirds, 45-31. The 5’7”, 165-pound freshman tailback from Alexandria, Virginia, ran for 270 yards and two touchdowns on 38 carries, in only the second game of the season in which Scottsdale’s run game outgained the passing game. Summers’ longest run of the night was 51 yards and he also had one reception for three yards. 


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Scottsdale linebacker Antonio Smothers gets the defensive nod in back-to-back weeks as the 6’1”, 230-pound sophomore from Westside High School in Chicago, had seven solo tackles and two assists in leading a defense which scored two touchdowns and had four interceptions. Smothers recorded four tackles for loss including two sacks, forced a fumble and was credited with four quarterback hurries. Many times he lined up as a defensive end where he proved to be an effective pass rusher forcing numerous off target throws.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Snow College downed Glendale in a game where the Badgers averaged starting at their own 43-yard line while the Gauchos averaged starting at their own 27. Much of the credit in the field position war goes to Snow punter Nick Porebski who averaged 46.0 yards on seven punts. The 5’10”, 181-pound freshman from Melbourne, Australia, pinned the Gauchos inside the 10-yard line three times, including twice inside the five which led directly to a pair of Badger touchdowns. Porebski’s longest boot went for 58 yards.
