Football Players of the Week: 10/22

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Scottsdale’s Za’Quan Summers had a break-out game running for 234 yards on 21 carries with three touchdowns in the Artichokes’ 60-21 win over Phoenix. The 5’7”, 165-pound freshman tailback from Alexandria, Va., also had 16 yards on two receptions to give him 250 yards of total offense -- almost half of Scottsdale’s output for the game. Summers’ three TD’s included a 75-yarder.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Siupelli Anau, a 6’2”, 242-pound defensive end from Horizon High School in Phoenix, led the Scottsdale defense with 12 tackles (10 solo, 2 assist) as the Artichokes downed Phoenix, 60-21. The sophomore was all over the field, making plays against both the run and the pass, garnering two tackles for loss for nine yards. Anau recorded the most solo tackles in a game by an Artichoke lineman in the past two seasons.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Snow College sophomore placekicker Spencer Groner was perfect on the day as the Badgers held off Arizona Western, 41-28. After Snow led 21-0 at halftime, AWC scored on its opening possessions of the third and fourth quarters, but both times Groner answered immediately with field goals to dampen the Matadors’ comeback efforts. Groner, 6’0”, 210 pounds from Littleton, Colo., booted field goals from 37 and 32 yards, and was 5-for-5 on points after touchdowns.
