Football Players of the Week: 10/15


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Scottsdale quarterback Blake Decker continued his remarkable season, throwing for 477 yards on 32-of-49 passing with four touchdowns and only one interception in Scottsdale’s 51-14 win over Glendale. Decker, who sat out the fourth quarter against the Gauchos, is a 6’2”, 200-pound sophomore from Mountain View High School in Mesa, Ariz. He added 65 yards rushing on nine carries. Decker raised his national leading numbers in passing to 441.6 yards per game and 31 TD passes. Decker now has 3,091 yards passing for the season.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Snow College freshman Eric Takenaka led the Badger defense in a 35-0 shutout of Phoenix College on Saturday. The 5’9”, 204-pound safety from Salt Lake City had two sacks among his nine tackles (six solo, three assists) in the game. Takenaka’s sacks totaled 14 yards as the Badger defense held the Bears to a net total of 29 yards rushing. He also had a punt return for 18 yards and a kickoff return for 20 yards. 

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Scottsdale kicker Matt Kirwan was perfect on the day as Scottsdale defeated Glendale, 51-14. The freshman was 6-for-6 on extra points and 1-for-1 on field goals (22 yards) for a total of nine points scored. Kirwan is 6’1”, 216 pounds and attended Sante Fe Christian High School in San Diego, Cal.
