Women's Soccer pulls away from pack with 3-1 win over Cochise

YUMA, Ariz. - The No. 4 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Women's Soccer team (11-0, 9-0) scored three goals in the second half on its way to its 11th consecutive win, beating No. 18 ranked Cochise (8-3-3, 5-2-2) on Tuesday afternoon in Douglas.

After playing a scoreless first 74 minutes, the Matadors opened the scoring in the 75th minute thanks to Karla Moreno who put the Matadors on the board with an unassisted goal to give the Matadors a 1-0 lead. It wouldn't take long for the Matadors to add a second goal when Maria Lopez made it 2-0 in the 82nd minute.

Cochise cut the Matadors' lead in half just a minute after the Matadors pushed the lead to two goals. The Apaches scored their lone goal of the game from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute, trimming the Matadors' lead to 2-1.

Yui Suetsugu responded three minutes later, putting a ball off the post and past the keeper to give the Matadors their two-goal lead back at 3-1 and put the game away.

The Matadors are back on the road on Thursday, October 17, heading to Loma Linda, Calif., to take on Community Christian at 4:30 pm.
