Arizona Western Baseball opens Community Christian series with 9-0 win

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 12 ranked Arizona Western College Matadors Baseball team (22-6) opened up a three-game series with Community Christian (6-6) with a 9-0 win on Thursday afternoon at Walt Kammann Baseball Field.

Nathan Houston put together a two-hit game as Matadors' starting pitcher Carlos Uribe tossed five shutout innings, striking out five batters.

The Matadors opened the scoring in the second inning, scoring a run on a wild pitch and another on an error. Arizona Western doubled the lead in the third inning on an RBI single from Houston and an RBI double off the bat of Taehyung Kim.

Arizona Western batted 10 times in the sixth inning and tacked on five runs to push the lead out to 9-0 thanks to RBI doubles from Carl Sullivan and Fausto Sanchez while adding runs on a balk and two bases-loaded walks.

Houston finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Aiden Schmidgall tossed two scoreless innings in relief.

The Matadors continue the series on Friday, March 15, hosting Community Christian in a doubleheader beginning at Noon at Walt Kammann Baseball Field.
