Espinoza and Forbes both homer in Softball's sweep of Pumas

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western College Lady Matadors Softball team (16-10, 8-2) outscored Paradise Valley (2-10, 2-10) 21-0 in a doubleheader sweep of the Pumas on Tuesday afternoon in Phoenix, winning game one 8-0 in five innings before finishing off the doubleheader with a 13-0 win in six innings game two.  

Madison Morgan went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Jayleen Espinoza went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the game one win.

Arizona Western started the scoring early, scoring two runs in the first inning before sending nine batters to the plate in the fourth inning and scoring three runs. The Lady Matadors capped off the scoring in the fifth inning, producing their second consecutive three-run inning.

Jessie Garcia started the game in the circle for Arizona Western and tossed seven shutout innings, recording five strikeouts in the win.

Mollie Forbes and Valerie Joaquin each had three hits in the Lady Matadors' 13-0 win over the Pumas in game two.

The game was scoreless until the Lady Matadors put a run on the board in the third inning on a Mackenzie Vela RBI single. Arizona Western batted nine times and scored five runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer off the bat of Forbes. Arizona Western added a run in the fifth inning before tacking on six more runs in the sixth inning.

Arizona Western is back on the road on Saturday, March 23, heading back to the valley for an ACCAC doubleheader at Chandler-Gilbert scheduled for Noon.
