Taina Lee's three-pointers help cap 12-0 fourth quarter run as Women's Basketball topples Scottsdale CC

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (11-3, 6-1 in ACCAC) got back to ACCAC conference play on Wednesday for a test on the road at Scottsdale Community College (7-3, 3-2).

  • The No. 14 ranked Aztecs outscored the Artichokes 22-8 in the fourth quarter and went on to a 63-54 win.
  • The Aztecs trailed 46-41 entering the fourth quarter but freshman Gabby Lopez (Bisbee HS) got things started with a three-pointer. Down 48-44, the Aztecs went on a 12-0 run and got a boost from sophomore Taina Lee, who hit two straight three-pointers. The Aztecs took their biggest lead at 56-48.
  • Freshman Rylei Waugh went 4 for 4 from the foul line down the stretch to help preserve the lead for good.
  • The Aztecs trailed the entire first quarter and much of the second quarter but with a pair of baskets by sophomore Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) and a three-pointer by sophomore Jordan Joe, the Aztecs went into the locker room up 31-28.
  • The Aztecs held a 37-30 lead in the third quarter after Lopez's bucket, but the Artichokes closed out the quarter on a 16-4 run.
  • Waugh scored a team-high 21 points as she went 6 for 11 from the field and 9 for 10 from the free throw line. She also had eight rebounds, three steals and two assists.
  • Acosta fell short of another double-double as she finished with 11 points and nine rebounds to go along with three assists.
  • Freshman Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) posted eight points and 12 rebounds (six offensive), two steals and one block.
  • Lee and Jordan each scored six points off the bench as they combined to go 4 for 7 from beyond the arc. Lopez had five points and five rebounds.

The Aztecs will be back on the road on Saturday when they play at Cochise College. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
