Women's Soccer wins seventh straight beating Phoenix 2-0

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The No. 11 ranked Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Soccer team (8-0-1, 7-0) earned its seventh consecutive win, beating the No. 1 ranked team in NJCAA Division 2, Phoenix (7-1-1, 4-1-1) 2-0 on Saturday evening at Hoy Stadium.

The Lady Matadors took control of the game early thanks to Cianna Thomas who put the Lady Matadors in front 1-0 on a trike from 30 yards out that carried the Phoenix goalkeeper over the line in the fourth minute.

Arizona Western added a second goal 16 minutes later when Ashly Martinez was dragged down in the box, winning a penalty that was knocked home by Wendy Jimenez to push the lead to 2-0.

Phoenix provided most of the pressure in the second half but the Lady Matadors defense along with goalkeeper Tindra Biedermann were able to keep the Bears off the scoreboard, earning their fourth consecutive shutout in the win.

The Lady Matadors are back in action on October 3, heading to Prescott, Ariz., to take on Yavapai at Ken Lindley Field at 3:30 p.m.
