Marmolejos leads Men's Basketball to 101-52 win over AZ Sol

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Men's Basketball team (3-0) extended its season-opening win streak to three games with a 101-52 win over AZ Sol on Wednesday night at the House Gymnasium behind a 28-point performance from AJ Marmolejos.

Marmolejos scored 24 of his 28 points in the first half to help the Matadors cruise past AZ Sol on Wednesday evening.

The Matadors opened the game on an 8-0 run before seeing their lead cut to 8-6 thanks to a 6-0 run from the Sol. With Arizona Western leading 11-9, the Matadors put together a 16-2 run to open up a 27-11 lead. Marmolejos buried a corner three to push the Matadors' lead to 36-17 and the Matadors led by as many as 27 points in the first half thanks to a three-pointer from Matija Gledic to put the Matadors in front 54-27 at the break.

The Matadors continued to extend the lead in the second half, building a 40-point advantage at 77-37 halfway through the second half thanks to six straight points from Cam Atkinson. The Matadors built the lead up to 91-37 thanks to a 20-3 run and went on to win the home opener 101-52.

Matija Gledic finished as the Matadors' second-leading scorer, scoring 15 points while Edwin Suarez had 14. LaRoi Glover ended the night with 10 points all coming in the second half.

The Matadors are back in action on Tuesday, November 14, hosting Arizona Christian JV at 7:00 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
