Gledic leads Arizona Western Men's Basketball to 66-46 win over Yavapai

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Men's Basketball team (17-7, 10-4) allowed just 15 points in the first half in a 66-46 win over Yavapai (11-13, 4-9) on Saturday afternoon at the House Gymnasium.

Matija Gledic led all scorers, scoring 18 points hitting four three-pointers, grabbing 13 rebounds in the Matadors' third consecutive win.

After falling behind early, the Matadors used a 13-0 run to build a 17-7 lead, growing the lead to 23-10 on an AJ Marmolejos floater. Gledic hit his first of four three-pointers to jump the lead up to 28-12. Yavapai scored the final three points of the half to close the gap to 13 points at the break.

Gledic helped the Matadors pull away in the second half, scoring 11 of his 18 points in the final 20 minutes, going 3-for-5 from three in the second half. Yavapai trimmed the Matadors' lead to seven points at 31-24 before the Matadors went on a 7-2 run, taking a 38-26 lead on a Jannoy Thomas basket. The Matadors outscored the Roughriders 38-31 in the 2nd half on their way to the season series sweep.

LaRoi Glover tied his career-high scoring 14 points while Edwin Suarez added 11 points off the bench and Thomas chipped in with 10.

The Matadors are back in action on Friday, February 9, heading to Douglas, Ariz., to take on Cochise at 7:30 pm.
