Garcia, Nlamu lead Men's Soccer to 5-0 win over Cougars

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 2 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Men's Soccer team (7-0-2, 4-0-1) recorded its second consecutive shutout and won its third straight game with a 5-0 win over South Mountain (1-4-1, 1-2-1) on Tuesday afternoon in Phoenix.

Karim Nlamu scored a pair of goals while Jonathan Garcia kept a clean sheet, posting a shutout between the sticks for the Matadors.

Nlamu scored the first two goals of the game, giving the Matadors a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute with a bicycle kick. Just three minutes later, Nlamu doubled the Matadors' lead to 2-0 by beating the keeper at the near post.

The Matadors scored three goals in the second half, the first thanks to the reigning ACCAC DI Men's Soccer Player of the Week Erick Mejia who pushed the Matadors' lead to 3-0 in the 50th minute. The Matadors were gifted their fourth goal of the night thanks to a South Mountain own goal and added their fifth goal on an 82nd-minute strike from Terry Makedika.

The No. 2 ranked Matadors are back in Phoenix on Saturday, September 23, taking the No. 2 ranked team in NJCAA DII Men's Soccer, Phoenix College at Hoy Stadium at 7:00 pm.
