Volleyball takes down Central Arizona 3-0 to earn No. 1 seed

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Volleyball team (17-7, 9-3) finished off the regular season with a 3-0 win over Central Arizona (15-14, 8-4) on Wednesday evening at the House Gymnasium to earn the No. 1 seed in the Region I playoffs.
Larryn Joseph-Rodrigues led the Matadors on offense with 10 kills as the Matadors as Ma'o Lauhingoa and Sevval Aslan each had six kills in the win.
The Matadors were able to fight off the Vaqueras in the first set, trading leads with Central Arizona before taking a 1-0 lead in the match by winning the first set, 25-23. The Matadors raced out to an early lead in both the second and third sets, beating the Vaqueras 25-13 in the second set and 25-15 in the third set to win the match 3-0.
Nehir Erimez got the offense started, leading the team with 27 assists while both Joseph-Rodrigues and Lauhingoa had 14 digs in the win.
The Matadors open postseason play at home on Monday, November 4, hosting Yavapai in the Region I semifinals with the first serve scheduled for 7:00 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for seniors. Passes will not be honored for postseason games.
