Phoenix College Softball Shows Resilience in Victorious Rematch Against Pima

Softball comes in at No.14 in Week 2 of the 2024 NJCAA DII Softball Rankings

After suffering a defeat at the hands of Pima in their previous matchup, Phoenix College Softball was determined to turn the tables when the opposing team visited their home turf. The game began with an explosive start as the Bears unleashed 9 runs in the top of the first inning, stunning Pima and their home crowd. Despite Pima's efforts to level the score in the bottom of the 6th inning, Phoenix regained the lead in the top of the 7th, ultimately securing a thrilling 17-16 victory. The slugfest saw Phoenix hitters delivering 5 home runs, with standout performances from Asia Jones, Danitza Hernandez, Katie Hoffmann, and a notable two homers by Riley Martens. With a total of 21 hits, PC displayed offensive prowess, while Alexis Ayersman's relief pitching ensured the win, backed by Martens' impressive 3-for-3 performance at the plate.

In the second game, PC initially took a 3-1 lead, only to see Pima rally back with 4 runs, momentarily taking control with a 5-3 lead. Undeterred, Phoenix mounted a comeback, reclaiming an 8-5 lead by the seventh inning, which Ayersman protected with another solid performance on the mound. Katie Hoffmann's standout performance, going 4 for 4 with 2 home runs, contributed significantly to Phoenix's victory.

Throughout the contest, both teams displayed championship-caliber resilience, with Pima testing the Bears at every opportunity. However, PC rose to the challenge, showcasing determination and grit in every pitch, at-bat, and defensive play. Notably, the top 8 hitters in the Bear's lineup boasted an impressive .500 batting average, demonstrating their readiness to reciprocate the intensity shown by Pima. This victory serves as a testament to Phoenix College Softball's competitive spirit and commitment to excellence.
