Lady Matadors Softball suffer pair of defeats in doubleheader at Central Arizona

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Softball team (27-17, 19-9) dropped its final two road games of the regular season, getting swept in a doubleheader by Central Arizona (20-17, 16-14) on Saturday afternoon, losing game one 11-2 before falling 19-1 in game two.

GiGi Garcia went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI while Gianna Medrano drove a run in the Lady Matadors' 11-2 loss in game one.

The Lady Matadors opened the scoring in the first inning thanks to a GiGi Garcia single, giving Arizona Western a 1-0 lead.

Central Arizona answered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and added another in the second inning before pushing the lead to 7-1 with a four-spot in the third.

Medrando added the Lady Matadors' second run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth. The Vaqueras scored four more runs in the sixth inning.

Jayleen Espinoza singled and drove in a run while Mackenzie Barney doubled in a 19-1 loss in game two.

Central Arizona scored the first 19 runs of the game, scoring 10 in the first inning and adding two more in the second before scoring seven in the third to cap off its scoring.

Espinoza drove in the Lady Matadors' lone run on a ground out in the fourth inning.

The Lady Matadors return home on Tuesday, April 30, hosting Eastern Arizona in an ACCAC doubleheader beginning at Noon at Charlie Dine Softball Field.
