The win was the Matadors' sixth straight win and fifth consecutive shutout, extending the team's shutout streak to 35 innings.

The Matadors were held off the board until the eighth inning when Arizona Western scored four runs in the eighth inning in a 7-4 loss to the Bears in game two.

The Bears opened the scoring in the second inning, scoring five runs to take a 5-0 lead before adding a sixth run in the fourth and taking on their seventh run in the seventh to score the first seven runs of the game.

With one out in the eighth inning, Robert Miranda singled to center before Eli Watson was hit by a pitch.
