Gomes leads Arizona Western Women's Basketball to 81-36 win over Glendale

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western College Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (21-9, 17-6) wrapped up the regular season with an 81-36 win over Glendale (8-21, 4-19) on sophomore night at the House Gymnasium.

The Lady Matadors had four players score in double-figures, led by Rita Gomes who set a career-high with 18 points, hitting four three-pointers in the win.

Arizona Western jumped out to a 6-2 lead early before Glendale scored six of the next eight points to tie the game at 8-8, eventually taking a 13-10 lead. The Lady Matadors scored the final three points of the quarter to tie the game at 13-13. The Lady Matadors went on a 23-16 run in the second quarter and pushed the lead out to 12 points at 34-22 at the half.

After a quick 5-0 run for Glendale in the third, the Lady Matadors went on a 27-5 run to bust the game open, taking a 61-32 lead into the fourth quarter and then outscored the Gauchos 20-4 in the fourth to close the game out.

Dyvine Harris was the Lady Matadors' second-leading scorer with 14 points while Davielis Berroa had 13 points off the bench and Alliance Ndiba scored 12 points in the win.

The Lady Matadors will head to Douglas, Ariz., to face Cochise in the Region I semifinals on Saturday, March 9 at a time to be announced.
