SMCC Women's Basketball Falls to Glendale CC in ACCAC Opener

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team (3-5, 0-1 ACCAC) fell 56-46 to Glendale CC in both teams' conference opener on Nov. 20 at the SMCC Gym. Sophomore Rahimeh Salaam led SMCC with 16 points and freshman Destiny Dixon added 10 points for the Cougars in the defeat. 

The Cougars trailed 15-7 after the first quarter and 31-16 at halftime. In the second half, the teams tied 9-9 in the third quarter, and SMCC won the fourth 21-16. The Cougars shot 27.1 percent (16 of 59) from the floor as a team, totaling 55 rebounds, nine assists, 11 steals, and four blocks. 

Salaam was 5 of 9 from the field and 6 of 8 from the free-throw line in 22 minutes. She added five rebounds, three steals, and four blocked shots. 

Dixon was 4 of 9 from the floor and added six rebounds and two steals in 31 minutes. Sophomore Mualyia Green came off the bench to grab a team-high 11 rebounds, seven of which were offensive and added eight points and two steals in 22 minutes. 

Sophomore Nei'Shae Clegg posted seven points, seven rebounds, and a steal in 24 minutes, and sophomore Leslie Aguirre had eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals in 37 minutes. Sophomore DeeDee Medlock added five points, four rebounds, and three assists.
