Arizona Western Baseball splits doubleheader with Pima

YUMA, Ariz., - The Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (36-14, 23-13) split a doubleheader with Pima (41-13, 25-11) on Tuesday afternoon at Aztec Baseball Field in Tucson, Ariz., losing 4-3 in game one before scoring 15 runs in a 15-9 win in the second game.

The Matadors scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning while the Aztecs scored four unanswered runs in the Matadors doubleheader opening 4-3 loss.

Sergio DeCello opened the scoring with a two-run homer before the Matadors added a third run to take a 3-0 lead.

Pima answered with a two-run bottom of the fourth inning and scored two more runs in the seventh to walk off winners in game one.

Taehyung Kim went 1-for-3 with a triple while Eli Watson went 1-for-2 with a walk in the loss.

Kim clubbed a pair of homers in game two, going 2-for-6 with four runs batted in and Nathan Houston had five hits, going 5-for-6 with four runs batted in in the Matadors' 15-9 win in game two.

The Matadors used a seven-run seventh inning while trailing by two runs to jump in front of the Aztecs before adding two more runs in the ninth, scoring nine of the final 10 runs scored in the game.

Marcus Graham had three hits and drove in two runs in the win and Watson added three more hits, driving in a run.

Brady Nelson tossed two scoreless innings as the Matadors cranked out 19 hits in the win to split the doubleheader.

The Matadors wrap up the regular season on Saturday, April 27, heading to Douglas, Ariz., to take on Cochise in an ACCAC doubleheader beginning at Noon.
