YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 4 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Men's Soccer team (9-1-1, 6-0-1) won its fifth straight game, beating Eastern Arizona (5-4, 2-4) 3-0 on Tuesday night at Matador Soccer Field.
The Matadors dominated the possession in the first 45 minutes but wouldn't break through on the scoreboard until the 45th minute when Hiromasa Iwai took a ball off a deflection and buried a shot from 25 yards out, beating the keeper to the back post, putting the Matadors in front 1-0.
Iman Ouedraogo doubled the Matadors to lead from the penalty spot, slotting a ball to the left of the left of the Gila Monsters' keeper to push the lead to 2-0. Karim Nlamu added the Matadors' third goal of the game moments later, tucking a ball underneath the bar to extend the advantage to 3-0.
Esteban Gonzalez played all 90 minutes in goal for the Matadors and kept a clean sheet, recording the shutout in the win.
The Matadors are back in action at home on Saturday, October 12, hosting Justice College at the Matador Soccer Field at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
