Harris scores 21 in Lady Matadors' 52-48 loss to Gila Monsters

THATCHER, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (13-5, 9-2) suffered its second consecutive loss, losing 52-48 to Eastern Arizona (18-1, 10-1) on Saturday afternoon at Guitteau Gymnasium.

Dyvine Harris led the Lady Matadors with 21 points as the Lady Matadors battled back from a 13-point deficit but came up short in the comeback bid.

Eastern Arizona jumped out to the early lead, scoring 10 of the first 12 points before the Lady Matadors went on a 9-3 run to pull within two points at 13-11. After Eastern ended the first quarter with a layup at the buzzer, the Gila Monsters built a 29-16 lead. The Lady Matadors used a three-pointer from Harris to kickstart a 10-0 run, cutting the Gila Monsters' lead to 29-26 on a Chenai Mushore layup just before the half.

The Gila Monsters opened up a 37-28 lead late in the third quarter but the Lady Matadors went on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to two points and went into the fourth quarter trailing 39-35 and fell behind 47-41 before putting together a run to pull within three with under a minute to play.

Alliance Ndiba finished the game as the Lady Matadors' second-leading scorer, scoring nine points and grabbing seven rebounds in the loss.

The Lady Matadors are back on the road on Tuesday, January 23, heading to Phoenix for an ACCAC matchup with South Mountain at 5:30 pm.
