YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 2 ranked Arizona Western Matador Men's Soccer team (8-0-3, 5-0-2) used a second-half goal from Terry Makedika to remain undefeated by beating Yavapai (6-4, 5-3) 1-0 on Tuesday night in Prescott, Ariz., at Ken Lindley Field.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first 45 minutes before the Matadors scored the lone goal in 20 minutes into the second half thanks to Makedika who headed home a cross from Stephen Saladin to put the Matadors in front 1-0.
Arizona Western goalkeeper Esteban Gonzalez made one save on the only shot on goal from Yavapai to record the clean sheet in the win.
For the second time this season, the Matadors won a game down a man after having a player sent off with a second yellow card in the 83rd minute.
The Matadors return home on Saturday, October 7, hosting Scottsdale at 7:00 p.m., at Matador Soccer Field. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
