Arizona Western Women's Basketball falls 61-60 in Region I Semifinals

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team had three players score in double-figures in a 61-60 loss to Cochise in the Region I semifinal on Saturday night at Apache Stronghold Gymnasium in Douglas.

Dyvine Harris scored a team-high 17 points and led the team with three assists as the Lady Matadors fell to the Apaches.

Arizona Western outscored Cochise 22-15 in the first quarter but were held to just 10 points in the second quarter, being outscored 20-10 and going into the locker room trailing 35-32. The third quarter featured just 18 points between the two teams with the Lady Matadors being held to eight points as Cochise pushed their lead up to five at 40-35. Arizona Western fell behind by as many as eight points in the fourth quarter but closed the gap to one point with nine seconds left.

Alliance Ndiba scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the loss while Rita Gomes scored 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting in the start.

The Lady Matadors finished the season with 21 wins, achieving a 20-win season for the third straight year.
