Men's Soccer builds momentum with two conference wins last week

Monday September 23, 2024 - 7:00 p.m. | Dylan DeVlieger

Men's Soccer pieced it together this past week as they won both conference matches over Scottsdale and Paradise Valley.

Scottsdale:

Mesa fell behind early in the contest, surrendering a goal in the 6th minute but would answer quickly as just three minutes later Joelouis Guzman tied the game up thanks to an Zacharly Lanman assist.

Isaac Semini would add one more to the T-Bird total in the 21st minute giving Mesa the 2-1 advantage.

Both teams would have opportunities to score up until the half but were just not able to capitalize as going into the break MCC held a 2-1 lead.

With just a one goal lead Mesa needed just a bit of cushion to put the game on ice and they would get just that in the 67th minute when Michael Esquivel found the back of the net to give the T-Birds the 3-1 lead.

MCC would keep the Artichokes out of the net the rest of the way and secure the 3-1 victory.

Paradise Valley:

During a toasty day game between the Pumas and T-Birds many athletes were experiencing the effects of playing hard in the heat with cramps and fatigue apparent everywhere.

Neither team could gain the advantage on the other as all the way through the half it was a 0-0 deadlock.

Caden Dosman would find a way to break the tie and put his team up, finding the back of the net in the 75th minute. Mesa would lock down defensively the rest of the way to secure a hard fought victory.

MCC will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Chandler-Gilbert before enjoying a week break as they gear up for the final stretch of the season.
