YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (13-4, 9-1) dropped the first of two games against No. 12 ranked Eastern Arizona (17-1, 10-1) 69-46 on Friday night at Guitteau Gymnasium.
Davielis Berroa led the Lady Matadors with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting, finishing the game as the lone Lady Matador in double-figures.
Eastern Arizona outscored the Lady Matadors 22-6 in the first quarter the Lady Matadors went 3-for-9 from the first in the first 10 minutes. Arizona Western played even with the Gila Monsters in the second quarter, splitting the 24 total points scored in the frame, heading into the locker room trailing 34- 18.
Berroa scored six of her 14 points in the third quarter while the Lady Matadors were outscored 16-12. Arizona Western's best scoring quarter came in the fourth scoring 16 points but could not hold off the Gila Monsters who scored 19 points in the final quarter.
Both Dyvine Harris and Alliance Ndiba ended the game with seven points while Ndiba was the team's leading rebounder with 10.
The Lady Matadors are back in action on Saturday at 2:00 pm taking on the Gila Monsters at Guitteau Gymnasium.
