Trivino's double-double helps Volleyball beat Yavapai 3-0

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 16 ranked Arizona Western Lady Matadors Volleyball team (18-5, 8-1) bounced back after its first conference defeat of the season to beat Yavapai (7-11, 2-7) 3-0 on Friday night at the House Gymnasium

Evelyn Trivino finished the match with a double-double, tallying 26 assists in three sets while recording 10 digs in the win. Amanda Juliao led the Lady Matadors in kills with 12 while Gabriela Martensson have five service aces.

The Lady Matadors jumped out an early lead and used a 7-0 scoring run to push their lead to 13-6. Arizona Western kept its distance from Yavapai thanks to another scoring run, this time scoring four consecutive points to open up a 17-8 lead. The Lady Matadors opened the match by taking the first set 25-14.

Arizona Western scored the first three points of the second set, taking a 3-0 lead on a Martensson ace. After trailing for most of the set, Yavapai battled back to tie the set at 14-14 before a 5-0 scoring run gave Arizona Western a 19-14 lead. The Lady Matadors pulled away in the second set for a 25-20 win.

The Lady Matadors scored seven of the first nine points in the third set and never looked back, outscoring the Roughriders 25-10 to take the final set and win the match 3-0.

The Lady Matadors are on the road on Friday, October 13, heading to Prescott, Ariz., to take on the Roughriders at Walraven Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
