Women's Basketball beats Yavapai 64-46 to win fifth straight

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (18-5, 14-2) had three players score in double figures in a 64-46 win over Yavapai (4-17, 5-10) on Saturday afternoon at the House Gymnasium.

Alliance Ndiba recorded her fifth consecutive double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in the Lady Matadors' fifth-straight win.

Arizona Western used a 6-0 run in the first quarter to take a 10-7 lead, pushing the lead out to 17-9 on a Dyvine Harris three-pointer before Davielis Berroa hit a floater to give the Lady Matadors a 19-9 lead. The Lady Matadors outscored the Roughriders 23-8 in the second quarter, hitting four three-pointers to take a 42-19 lead into the locker room.

The Lady Matadors held the Roughriders to single digits for the second straight quarter, allowing just nine points in the third and outscored Yavapai 16-9, taking their largest lead of 33 points early in the fourth quarter. Yavapai dug in the Lady Matadors lead in the fourth, holding Arizona Western to six points in the fourth.

Rita Gomes hit five three-pointers, scoring 15 points while Berroa finished as the team's third-leading scorer, scoring 14 points.

The Lady Matadors are back in action on Friday, February 9, heading to Douglas, Ariz., to take on Cochise at 5:30 pm.
