Men's Basketball picks up 80-69 road win over Imperial Valley

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Men's Basketball team (2-0) picked up its second win of the season on Tuesday night, beating Imperial Valley (0-2) 80-69 thanks to 21 points from AJ Marmolejos in Imperial, Calif.

Marmolejos scored 11 of his 21 points in the first half to help the Matadors out to a 48-29 lead at the break. Edwin Suarez also scored 11 points in the first half to guide the Matadors to the 19-point halftime lead.

 Imperial Valley scored four of their 69 points in the second half while the Matadors were able to hang on for the 80-69 win thanks to eight more second-half points from Suarez who finished the game with a season-high 19 points.

Matija Gledic finished the game with 10 points while LaRoi Glover made his season debut also scoring 10 points in the win.

The Matadors return home for the 2023 home-opener on Wednesday, November 8, hosting AZ Sol at 7:00 p.m. at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
