YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (28-16, 13-13) dropped both games of a doubleheader with No. 17-ranked College of Southern Nevada (35-10, 21-9) on Saturday afternoon at Morse Stadium, losing 5-2 in game one and 9-3 in game two.
Kylian Bamberger went 1-for-3 with an RBI in game one as the Matadors let an early lead slip away in a 5-2 loss in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Matadors scored first, grabbing two runs in the second inning on a wild pitch and a Bamberger single to give them a 2-0 lead.
Southern Nevada scored a run in the bottom of the second and took the lead in the sixth, scoring four runs to grab a 5-2 lead.
Diego Evans allowed two earned runs in 5.2 innings, striking out four batters in the loss.
Andres Ontiveros went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Lukas Pacal allowed two earned runs over six innings, striking out three batters in the loss in game two.
The Matadors scored three of the first four runs of the game, scoring a single run in each the first, second, and third innings to take an early 3-0 lead thanks to RBI singles from Ontiveros, Bamberger, and a Gerardo Castor sacrifice fly.
Southern Nevada scored the final eight runs of the game, using a four-run seventh inning to pull away from the Matadors.
Bamberger went 2-for-4 with an RB,I and Bronson Neave doubled in the Matadors' loss in the series finale.
The Matadors are back home on Friday, April 11, hosting Cochise in a doubleheader beginning at Noon at Walt Kammann Baseball Field.
