Ndiba's double-double powers Lady Matadors to 53-43 win over Cochise

YUMA, Ariz. – Alliance Ndiba scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (10-3, 6-0) beat Cochise (4-5, 2-3) 53-43 on Thursday night at the House Gymnasium.

Ndiba scored a game-high 24 points on 10-for-15 shooting to help the Lady Matadors push their winning streak to eight games.

After Cochise took an early lead, the Lady Matadors went on a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the night and outscored the Apaches 17-9 in the first quarter. Rita Gomes hit her first of three three-pointers to push the lead to 24-13 and the Lady Matadors took a 30-17 lead into the locker room at the half.

Ndiba opened the second half with a three-point play and the Lady Matadors opened up a 47-30 lead at the end of the third quarter, their largest of the night. Cochise outscored the Lady Matadors 13-6 in the fourth quarter and one point cut the Lady Matadors' advantage to 50-43 before the Lady Matadors sealed the win at the free throw line.

Gomes and Harris each finished as the Lady Matadors' second-leading scorers with nine points in the win.

Arizona Western returns to action on Wednesday, January 3, heading to Mesa to take on the Thunderbirds in an ACCAC matchup at 5:30 pm.
