Four Lady Matadors score in double-figures in 60-55 loss to Cochise

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western College Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (18-6, 14-3) dropped the first game of a two-game weekend in Douglas, Ariz., losing 60-55 to Cochise (17-5, 12-3) on Friday night at Apache Stronghold Gymnasium.

Dyvine Harris led the Lady Matadors with 14 points and Alynna Palacios scored 13 points and set a season-high with three made three-pointers as the Lady Matadors saw their five-game winning streak come to an end.

The Lady Matadors went on an early 6-0 run to take a 6-2 lead which was answered by a 6-0 run from Cochise as the teams went back-and-forth early in the first quarter and finished the first tied at 15-15. Rita Gomes gave the Lady Matadors a 24-19 lead with a three and Lady Matadors outscored the Apaches 10-7 in the second to take a 25-22 lead at the break after Cochise hit a three at the buzzer to cut into the Lady Matadors' largest lead of the night.

The Lady Matadors matched their largest lead of the night on a Palacios three to put the Lady Matadors up 31-25. Cochise used a run to open up a 36-32 lead but Arizona Western battled back to tie the game at the end of the third on a three-pointer from Harris.  With the Lady Matadors trailing by four in the fourth quarter, Alliance Ndiba capped off a 5-0 run to put the Lady Matadors up 46-45 but Cochise finished off the game by outscoring the Lady Matadors 15-9 over the final few minutes to pull away.

Ndiba scored 12 points and had 16 rebounds and Davielis Berroa scored 12 points, going 2-for-3 from the three-point line in the loss.

The Lady Matadors are back in action on Saturday, February 10, taking on Cochise once again at 2:00 pm at Apache Stronghold Gymnasium.
