Women's Basketball drops second straight with 64-53 loss to Eastern Arizona

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western College Lady Matadors' Women's Basketball team (19-8, 15-5) lost its second straight, losing 64-53 to No. 16 ranked Eastern Arizona (25-3, 18-3) on Saturday afternoon at the House.

Dyvine Harris led the Lady Matadors with 18 points while Davielis Berroa scored 13 off the bench in the Lady Matadors' loss.

Eastern Arizona opened the game on a 7-0 run before back-to-back threes from Harris and Berroa pulled the Lady Matadors to within a point at 7-6 in the first quarter. The Gila Monsters built the lead back up to six points at 15-9 before the Lady Matadors put together a 5-0 run, cutting the deficit to one at 15-14 on a Rita Gomes layup. The Gila Monsters took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Matadors 22-8, opening up a 40-22 lead at halftime.

Arizona Western closed the gap in the third quarter, trailing 45-24, the Lady Matadors went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 45-33 and eventually got to within seven at 47-40 on a Berroa four-point play. Arizona Western outscored Eastern 22-11 in the third. Eastern held the Lady Matadors to nine points in the fourth to hold on for the win.

The Lady Matadors are back in action on Friday, March 1, heading to Coolidge to take on Central Arizona at 5:30 pm.
