Phoenix College Secures 9-5 Victory Over Mesa Community College

The Phoenix College baseball team earned a solid 9-5 victory over Mesa Community College, backed by strong hitting and steady pitching performances.

Phoenix College's offense delivered with 14 hits, highlighted by Nico Rijo-Berger's home run and Teagan Kearney's two RBIs. Brody Tewers added a double, while Cesar Montoya, Brayden Flores, and Brigden Smith each contributed an RBI to the win. Eddie Cotto had an impressive game, going 3-for-3 with four runs scored.

On the mound, Carson Stoller (1-0) earned the win with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one. Nic Cortez started the game, pitching two innings and giving up two earned runs with three strikeouts. Matthew Hart closed out the game, securing the final three outs while allowing one run.

Mesa Community College managed eight hits, with Cole Zilmer launching a home run and driving in two runs. Nolan Hamilton also had a strong showing, contributing a two-RBI double. However, MCC struggled defensively, committing five errors.

Phoenix College took an early lead and never trailed, scoring in the first three innings before breaking the game open with a four-run seventh inning. Despite a late push from MCC, the Bears' pitching staff held firm to seal the victory.

With this win, Phoenix College sits at 1-2, 1-1 at home looking to build momentum heading into the next matchup.
