Men's Basketball wraps up regular season with 98-65 win over Gauchos

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western College Matadors Men's Basketball team (20-9, 13-6) had four players in double-figures to lead the way in a 98-65 win over Glendale (13-17, 8-14) on Sophomore night, Monday evening at the House Gymnasium.

The Matadors were led by AJ Marmolejos who scored a game-high 32 points and hit five three-pointers in the win.

Arizona Western had an early 13-7 lead before Glendale crawled to within a point at 20-19. The Matadors went on a 16-6 run to open up a 36-25 lead. Jannoy Thomas pushed the lead to 51-35 with a jumper at the buzzer to end the half.

The Matadors offense stayed hot in the second half, scoring 47 points as the Matadors outscored the Gauchos 47-30 in the win. Matija Gledic was the Matadors' second-leading scorer, scoring 16 points and hauling in 12 rebounds while LJ Glover scored 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting and had eight boards.

Joao Das Chagas provided a double-double off the bench, scoring 12 points with 12 rebounds and Bernard Dzesi set career-highs in points with nine and rebounds with nine.

The Matadors will head to Douglas, Ariz., to face Cochise in the Region I semifinals on Saturday, March 9 at a time to be announced.
