Women's Soccer cruises to 14-1 win over GateWay

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 9 ranked Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Soccer team (12-1, 11-0) scored 10 of their 14 goals in the first half on its way to a 14-1 win over GateWay (3-10-1, 2-9) on Saturday evening at Matador Soccer Field.

Arizona Western opened the scoring just 30 seconds in when Leigha Dobbins tapped home a cross to put the Lady Matadors in front 1-0. Ashly Martinez scored just two and a half minutes later to push the lead to 2-0 before Dobbins scored her second of the game in the 17th minute. Arizona Western's fourth goal came just a minute later on a strike from Jimenez. Genrosa Vidal added the Lady Matadors' fifth goal in the 22nd minute and Abigail Nkrumah had the sixth a minute later. Logan Aleia, Riley McQueenie, Mariany De Souza, and Risui Arasaki scored the final four goals of a ten-goal first half for the Lady Matadors.

Arizona Western scored their 11th goal of the game seven minutes into the second half thanks to McQueenie's second goal of the game. Rikako Hayami added to the Lady Matadors' lead in the 56th minute with a goal coming off a ball from a corner kick.

GateWay was able to get on the board in the 64th minute on a penalty to cut Arizona Western's lead to 12-1. Cianna Thomas scored the Lady Matadors' 13th goal in the 78th minute on a shot from outside the box to up the lead to 13-1. Martinez became the third Lady Matadors to score twice in the win, adding the final goal in a 14-1 win.

The Lady Matadors head to Phoenix on Tuesday, October 17, to take on Paradise Valley in the final regular season game for the Lady Matadors at 1:00 p.m.
