Glover gives Matadors 80-79 overtime win over Scottsdale with late tip-in

YUMA, Ariz., - The Arizona Western Matadors Men's Basketball team (13-5, 6-2) came from behind to beat Scottsdale (7-4, 3-3) 80-79 in overtime to win its second straight game on Saturday night at the House Gymnasium.

Matija Gledic led the Matadors with 19 points while Edwin Suarez had 10 points and 14 rebounds in the win.

After Arizona Western opened the scoring, Scottsdale went on a 6-0 run to take an early 6-2 lead. Trailing 11-4, the Matadors went on an 8-0 run, grabbing a 12-11 lead on a Bernard Dzesi layup. The Fighting Artichokes pushed the lead to 11 points on a three-pointer late in the half before Gledic scored five straight points to bring the Matadors within six points at 35-29 to end the half.

Scottsdale put together a 7-0 run early in the second half opened up a 44-34 lead and eventually stretched the lead out to 51-38 before the Matadors went on a 20-6 run to grab a 58-57 lead on an AJ Marmolejos floater. Gledic tied the game at 67-67 with a corner three late. The Matadors had a chance to win the game in regulation but a Jannoy Thomas' three attempt was short, sending the game to overtime.

Glover at four of his 13 points in overtime, including a tip-in with 2.9 seconds to go to seal the win for the Matadors, 80-79. Glover and Thomas each finished the night with 13 points in the win.

The Matadors are back in action on Saturday, January 13, hosting Pima in an ACCAC matchup at 4:00 pm at the House Gymnasium.
