Women's Basketball beats Cochise 71-62 to win seventh straight

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (9-3, 5-0) pushed its winning streak to seven games with a 71-62 win over Cochise (4-4, 2-2) on Wednesday night at the House Gymnasium.

The Lady Matadors were led by Dyvine Harris who scored a game-high 17 points to help the Lady Matadors remain unbeaten in conference play.

Arizona Western fell behind early as Cochise took an early 13-8 lead before the Lady Matadors came to within one point at the end of the quarter, trailing 17-16. The Lady Matadors outscored the Apaches 24-13 in the second quarter and took a 40-30 lead into the locker room on a Harris buzzer-beating three-pointer.

The Lady Matadors were able to stretch the lead to 14 points at 55-41 on a pair of Fatima Katembo free throws. Cochise cut the Lady Matadors' lead to nine points before Davielis Berroa converted an and-one to put the Lady Matadors back up 12 at 58-46. Arizona Western was able to hold off the Apaches to pick up the 71-62 win.

Berroa tied her career-high with 12 points while Alliance Ndiba finished the game as the Lady Matadors' third-leading scorer with 10 points. Alynna Palacios, Katembo, and Chenai Mushore ended the game with nine points.

The Lady Matadors are back in action on Thursday, December 14, hosting Cochise once again at 5:30 pm.
