Ndiba's double-double propels Women's Basketball to 61-25 win over Chandler-Gilbert

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (6-3, 2-0) used a 20-point third quarter to pull away from Chandler-Gilbert (5-3, 0-3) 61-25 to win its fourth consecutive game on Wednesday night at the House Gymnasium.

Alliance Ndiba scored 14 points and grabbed a season-high 24 rebounds to help the Lady Matadors earn their second conference win of the season.

The Lady Matadors led early before a Chandler-Gilbert 5-0 run put the Coyotes in front 7-5. Arizona Western answered with a 6-0 run featuring a pair of baskets from Ndiba to take an 11-7 lead. The Lady Matadors outscored the Coyotes 12-6 in the second half and opened their biggest lead of team points at 23-13 right before the half thanks to back-to-back putbacks from Ndiba and Alynna Palacios.

After the Coyotes opened the second half with a made three-pointer, the Lady Matadors went on a 22-1 run to open up a 35-17 lead on a Rita Gomes floater. Arizona Western closed the quarter on an 8-4 run to take a 43-21 lead to the fourth where the Lady Matadors finished the game by outscoring the Coyotes 18-4 in the final frame.

Daveilis Berroa scored 13 points to finish as the Lady Matadors' second-leading scorer while both Dyvine Harris and Fatima Katembo ended the game with 10 points.

The Lady Matadors are back in action on Wednesday, December 13, hosting Cochise at 5:30 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
